Short Video

I took this video a few days ago. The problem at the time was, when I took it, as the feeder was a long one I turned the camera sideways to get the full length of the feeder. When I took it off the camera onto the computer it came out sideways of course. There was no way to flip it upright. I emailed friends to see if anyone knew how to do this. Thanks to Jan who sent me a site where I could download a program (for free) to flip videos. It was so easy. So here's the video.

Bees, Butterflies and Birds

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw two Pine Grosbeaks on the feeder this morning. One has been coming for days and to see two, got me very excited. I didn't get a picture because.....crazy man shouting "What have you got that camera in your hand for when we have a leak in the pipe." Ah yes, a leak in one of the bathroom pipes. Startled birds and startled me! Argument ensued...no winners, lol. Hopefully both birds will be back.

So, on to some recent pictures. I took this one of the Grosbeak the other day.

Saturday and HOT!

Just finished watering all the gardens. Hose has broken but I managed to get it done. What a month we've had weather wise. Sunny and hot. This past three days there has been a Pine Grosbeak gobbling up the sunflower seeds. I don't often get one of these birds in the garden and I noticed that while he was on one of the feeders a jay landed quite near him and he shivered his wings like the young do when they want food from the parent so it seems it's a young one. I don't know if he's lost the flock or what's going on.

Looking around I found this moth. Don't know what kind it is. Guess this means buying a book on Moths now, lol.

I bought some Chicory seeds last year and started some plants. This year it's bloomed and I'm quite pleased with the flowers, so pretty.

A Rose, and I'm not sure of the name of the other one. Maybe Rubeckia.

I never know what to blog about, I wish I were a chatty type person but alas, I'm not. I envy people who can talk about their day and make it sound so interesting. It's raining here today, which is a good thing as we haven't had any for ages and the ground is welcoming it. Inside the house it's feeling damp and a little chilly so I decided to put the fire in. A nice warmth enveloping me now. I always think there's nothing better than a wood stove for the wonderful heat coming from it. Such a lazy day, Roger just went through a suitcase full of photographs he had taken over the years and threw out at least half of them. I did manage to grab up a few that I wanted to save. So he's now off on his walk and I'm sitting at the computer. Don't feel like doing anything really but relax and read a good book.

Sunday we were invited to afternoon tea at a friends house. There were seven of us and it was lovely. Buns, biscuits, cheeses, jams, spreads and fruits, all wonderful. It put me in mind of my grandmother who always had afternoon teas. Such great memories.

Yesterday afternoon a neighbour dropped by. Had a nice chat. Then a friend of Rogers wanted some help getting buckets of peat down the road so the boys went off. Came back about an hour later so as the sun was getting close to going over the yard arm, wine was served. All in all a nice afternoon.

I haven't taken many pictures this past few days. We went down to the beach as there were loads of dragonflies flitting about the bridge that goes across the river before you get to the beach. Of course the dragons weren't landing and the smell of rotting sea weed was so bad that I had to get out of there. Smelled putrid. Will have to try another day I expect. I did see a handsome spider in the bathroom this morning but couldn't get a good picture. I went back to try again but he had disappeared.

For now, just odds and ends of pictures I've taken lately.

These are two sheds on a friends property. I do love little old structures.

The sun was coming in the window lighting up some plants. The second picture didn't really capture the light on the plant too well.

Ok, ok, I like skulls, skeletons and knives, lol

Got the light fixture in picture at a flea market on the weekend for $4.00. Can't beat that and I'm well pleased with it.

And last but not least, a woodie. Such big feet. Not many birds around now. Don't know where they've all gone. Guess they are getting lots of natural food.

That's it, I'm off.

Not so Lazy Summer Days.

Because I got it in my mind to make a Rose garden. Not that I need another garden, I have more than one person can handle already but, I have a few rose bushes that are in odd places so figured I would move them with three that I have in one area. This means digging up the ground to make the space. What a job! I have a bench that I want to put in this particular garden with an arch going over it so that I can put the climbing rose bush that I have there and you can sit on the bench under a bower of Roses....eventually. Of course I can't move the Rose bushes at this point but thought that if I had the ground prepared, the biggest job would be over with.

The weather has been fantastic. Lots of tourists and people with summer homes around now. So many unfamiliar faces. Although there was a wee bit of a nip in the air of autumn the other day, summer is going on as it should. In fact, sometimes we have lovely weather right up until the end of October. I'm just hoping that the snow doesn't start in November like it did last year. It makes winter seem so long.

A few pictures I took this week.

A few Juncos have hung around this summer. Loads at the feeders in the winter.

Bugs, Butterflies and Birds

We are still getting lovely sunny days but the wind is cool and one can feel just a touch of fall in the air. I'm spending far too much time wandering around looking for bugs when I should be doing other things.

Come into my parlour said the spider to the fly.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is a Green Comma.

And a White Admiral.

The Jays are bringing their young each day now. Sounds like a nursery at various times during the day. The young are as big as the adult.

While they are quite capable of eating on their own, the parents are still feeding them. This one, on seeing parent on a branch above with food, starting "squeaking" and fluttering wings.

Sun shining, still smiling.

Looks like it's going to be a busy summer family wise. My brother and his wife are coming home for ten days the end of the month from the states. Their daughter and her boyfriend are also coming at the same time from Australia. They will be staying at their house just outside of the city and throwing a big party, so I hear. Don't know if we'll get in for it as it would have to be just an overnighter and it's a three hour drive there and back. We shall see.

Grandson is in Amsterdam at the moment with a couple of friends from university. Granddaughter and her partner in Ontario have just moved to another Ontario town and she and grandson are hoping to come here for a holiday in August. Can't wait to see them.

Weather is holding nicely. Warm and sunny....love it!

I do like spiders, but not on me. If I see one on me I tend to do that strange yelling dance while tearing clothes off. lol. Finally found a web with spider this morning.

Lunch is served.

Beauties in the garden.

Pathway into another section of garden.

Just for fun, not real reptiles. Wish they were. Love reptiles.
