A Little Excursion.

We decided to go for a 4 klm walk this morning, starting off along the beach. A few minutes walk down the road from the house, we come across this sign at the entrance to the beach.


Then a little further along before getting on the beach itself, we have to cross over a small bridge. These are views from either side of the bridge and one looking down into the water.

At the other end of the beach we headed up a path to the road. I just know there are fairies living here among the moss and trees.






I then knew this to be true because we found this fairy pipe.


Once upon the road, we took another path where I took some pictures of the flowers that were about.




Then we came upon this lovely horse. He came over to us when Roger whistled.



Just about home and spied these pretty daisies in the ditch.

Bees, Bugs, and Butterflies

I've been so busy, hardly get time to sit at the computer. I've been digging ground and cutting back some trees most of the day. Now that himself has returned from holidays we've settled back into our usual routine. I have him finishing the painting of the back of the house this past two days. Very muggy and warm which has the mosquitoes quite happy which in turn makes us miserable when outside. Also the deer flies are on the go so if you don't get bitten by one the other is sure to get you.

Loads of people around this past weekend. You could hardly find parking at the few stores we have in the community. It was a beautiful weekend and I hear that the beaches were packed with people. Well, not our beach down the road as it's a little known secret, lol. It's not advertised for the tourists like the other two and that suits me just fine. I had people in for Greek food on Saturday evening, then Sunday we were invited to a barbecue. All in all it was very enjoyable.

So....I did take time to run for the camera this morning when I saw a few visitors.

I haven't a clue what this bug is. The body itself was about an inch long and the photo doesn't really do it justice. Very handsome.

I believe this is a Skipper but I'm darned if I can find it in my book.



I saw a White Plume Moth on Wildlife on Wheels blog this morning, then while in the garden I spied this. It looks very much like the picture I saw on Yokes blog. I'm wondering if that's what it is?

Feathered Friends and Flowers

I got up around 4:30 am and the rain was coming down in torrents. I figured every tall plant in the garden would be flattened but as luck would have it after the rain they were all standing up straight. It's a wee bit chilly today, only +8 C when I got up but thankfully it's around +14 C at the moment. Himself arrives home in two days from Spain where the temps. have been in the 40's so he's in for quite a shock as we're suppose to have cooler temperatures for the next couple of days. I've been doing very little lately. I seem to have gotten lazy all of a sudden and am just basically lazing around. Oh I've stuck a few plants in the ground that a friend gave me, cleaned the chicken house, baked some sweets, general house work, but not done anything that takes a lot of labour.

There have been few birds around. The Hummingbird Hawk moth has been here for a few days. Not hanging around for long though. Seems to be just checking in then flying off. There's been a crow hanging around always waiting for me to put some leftovers on the platform feeder.

The poppies have been blooming this week. They don't last very long but a beautiful sight never the less.

Bits and peices.

Woke up during the night to the sound of banging which seemed to be coming from somewhere in the house. Half asleep I stumbled out of bed and went to face whatever might be coming in. Got as far as the living room when I realized that it was fireworks going off, likely down on the beach. Celebrating Canada Day no doubt. Himself will be back from his holidays in a weeks time so I'm trying to make the most of my time alone.

This morning at 6:00 am, I was outside struggling to get grass and wild raspberry bushes out from under a Snowball Tree. I hadn't realized how much the weeds, etc. had gotten out of hand there. Lots of digging and pulling I can tell you.

It's another gorgeous day, clear blue skies everywhere you look. Lots of perfumes wafting up from the different flowers. I counted 40 buds on a rose bush I bought a couple of years ago. Those roses and the white "wild roses" are giving off quite a scent. I'm glad I moved most of them last year to the one area, now I can sit on the bench surrounded by the wonderful smells. The buttercups are blooming along the pathways in parts of the garden. I think they look quite charming and always look forward to seeing them.

I've been so intent on looking for bugs to photograph lately that I've forgotten the birds. Here's a few pictures I took today.

First a young grey jay. They are all black before they get their adult feathers.
