A Few Pictures.

There's been little or nothing happening lately. The weather people had predicted a 30 cm. plus snow fall a few days ago but fortunately we didn't get it all. It started, then turned to heavy wet snow then rain. Ending up with a couple of inches of very wet, heavy snow. It's +4 C today and the sun was suppose to shine but we only got a glimpse of it for a few moments.

Angry cat. She wasn't happy about one of the other cats wanting her spot on top of the chair. With deep growls she drove the up start away.

A rather "Pink" day.

Himself has pink underwear! Why, you might ask?? Her inside was doing a wash, dreaming of spring and planting and threw a red article in with his whites. Oh dear, oh dear!!!! Nothing to be done for it now except the question from himself "How come my underwear is pink?"

A very mild morning. I was letting hens out and filling bird feeders with just my sweater on. I just can't get over this winter. Wonderful. A good bit of rain off and on but it's not snow.

There haven't been many birds around this week. I think because it's warmer out they are going farther afield these days. Yesterday morning I boiled a few eggs for the crows breakfast and I must say they really enjoyed this special treat.

Frosty Morning.

You know you need glasses when you look out the window at the platform feeder and say to yourself..."Wow, that's a strange bird. Haven't seen one like that around here before", you run for the camera. Having another look out before taking the picture, I see it's not a bird at all but a large piece of whole wheat bread that I had put out with the bird seed....sigh!

I bought myself a hula hoop, yep, a hula hoop. I use to be quite good at it when I was a child but now it always seems to be down around my ankles, lol.

The weather has been wonderful really. Yesterday the sun was shinning and it was warm enough to sit on the deck with a sweater on. Imagine, sitting on the deck in February with just a sweater on...amazing. I wouldn't mind a winter like this every year.

This morning it was a little chilly and the trees were full of frost. It looked magical! A few pictures taken on the way back from the shop.

Strange Winter

It's been an odd winter weather wise. Not much snow and a fair bit of drizzle and rain. Temperatures mostly hovering around zero. We haven't seen the sun in a while but to be honest, I'm not complaining. With the milder temperatures and lack of shoveling what usually seems like tons of snow, I can take more of this.

There's been little or nothing happening here so not much to blog about. The chickens have been having a good winter being able to come out most days and spend time on the deck with the occasional banging with beaks on the back door looking for treats and I'm foolish enough to take care of their demands, lol.

The Grosbeaks are here most days now. As long as I have lots of sunflower seeds on the feeders they will come. I've seen a few Nuthatches which pleases me greatly. I usually have lots of them around but last year I didn't see one. This was a great surprise as I can't remember ever not seeing them regularly.

I had two odd experiences with the crows recently. Early morning, not a sound, not even a whisper of wind, an eerie feeling really, a feeling of expectation almost. I go to the platform feeder with breakfast for the crows but hadn't seen any around. I leave the feeder and on the way back to the house I look up and there I saw a tree full of crows, not making a movement or a sound. I felt I was caught up in the dance of the universe, being one with nature and the crows. I really can't describe the feeling.

And so, I feel the promise of spring already. Maybe it's the weather that's giving me that feeling of excitement.....digging, planting, weeding, all that good stuff. Not long until April. Himself is going away for three weeks in April and I'm looking forward to some "alone" time.

Snow, snow and still snowing!

I can safely say that we got dumped on. I don't know how many cms fell but my mother called and said they got 60 cms. The snow was about five feet high against their door and they couldn't get out. We didn't get that much but we got enough. I'm tired at the moment and my back is aching from things to be done outside ie: filling feeders. Clearing a way to hen house, etc., etc. A few pictures taken this morning.





Yesterday morning we went to visit the friend who got her new puppy the day before. What a little doll. Full of beans too.

Brrrrrrr!

Here we are into February. The worse month as far as I'm concerned. Not much to report except that it's been bitterly cold with temperatures down to -19 at night and not getting up much higher during the day. Tomorrow snow is predicted 5 - 10 cm. By Saturday it's suppose to warm up some. At least it seems we will be out of this wretched chill.

My friend is picking up her new puppy who is being flown in today. I expect we will pay a visit and see the little dear in the next day or so.

We went to the beach this morning. Only stayed a few minutes as it was windy and enough to take the skin of you. These ducks were in the water but took off before I could get a good shot. I don't know what kind they were but have seen them there once before.

Another lovely Day

We had a bit of snow overnight and part of the early morning but it's turned into a beautiful day. I thought it would be a good time to clean the hen house and turn the soil over in their greenhouse area to make it nice and fresh. After finishing the job, I was near the door and turned around to have a look at the chickens. All of a sudden my cap which I had pulled down tight around my head, was lifted right off. omg, what's happening! I grab up at it and looking up there was that mischievous boy "Stanley" laying on one of the cross beams with his nails hooked into my cap and pure devilment shining in his eyes. Although the hens won't come out when there is snow on the ground, I left the door open so they could, from the doorway, get some sunshine on their bodies.

Two days ago, I went out to check on the chickens just before supper when something caught my eye. It was a grouse, under one of the feeders eating seed that had been dropped by other birds.



Other than that, there really isn't much to report. Himself has a flight booked for Spain in April so he's quite excited about that.

Spring like day in January

My friend who had her Jack Russell put down recently is getting a puppy in early February. A bunch of us decided to have a surprise "Puppy Shower" for her. A little unconventional I'll admit but what fun. The puppy got lots of great presents, a small quilt with his name embroidered on it, a puppy sweater, a teddy bear, a plush dog that looks like him, leashes, collars and a great assortment of toys, doggy treats and puppy food. The friend who had the party had a wonderful assortment of food for the dinner and we all walked away from the table stuffed. It really was a great bit of fun.

We bought our first cell phone well over a year ago. We decided to get one simply for emergencies. If I've used it once, that's about all, the same with himself. He usually carries it in his purse (men's purse), when he goes for his walk or to the shop, etc. Laurie phoned this morning needing some information from Roger. I said he was gone to the store in the car and wouldn't be long and that I would get him to phone her when he got back. After hanging up the phone, me being as smart as I am said to self, "Hmmm, he has the cell phone, I really should try to call him." I phone, it rings and it rings, I finally hang up. Strange, I'm thinking, he must have it turned on, so I try again. It's ringing and ringing, then I see him pull into the driveway, I hang up the phone but he's staying in the car longer than necessary. I wait, he finally comes in. "Didn't you hear the cell phone ringing." Yes, he says, "I didn't know it was the phone, I thought the car was giving me a warning signal that something was wrong and I've been looking for the problem ever since."

I think I'll end on that note, LOL.

Almost February!

Here we are, almost the end of January and we haven't had any snow worth talking about. Not much showing in the long range forecast. This is good as each day that goes by without snow is one less day of winter.

Laurie was here for five days. She arrived last Wednesday and left yesterday. We met her at the bus and as we were walking towards the bus, the driver was opening the luggage place under the bus and was laughing and talking with Laurie as he pulls out her computer chair. I couldn't believe my eyes, lol. She had some work to do on my computer so brought along her own comfortable computer chair. When she was leaving, I asked her if the taxi that she was getting when she got off the bus would take the chair along with all her luggage. She said that she had phoned ahead and ordered that a van pick her up. lol.

Its very windy today which makes it chilly outside. Himself bundled up to go for his walk this morning and about 15 mins. later was coming in the door again saying that when he got down the hill and around the corner the wind was so cold it was cutting. Prior to that I had let the chickens out as the temperature was around zero. I wasn't thinking of the wind chill factor. There was nothing for it but to get them back in their greenhouse area again.

Still not a lot of birds at the feeders. I have seen a couple of nuthatches though which pleased me. Normally I have lots all year round but last year I don't think I saw any which was really strange.

Chilly Day In January

It seems ages since I did any blogging. To be honest, I've been busy. I had a sewing project to finish and now have a couple of more that need to be done as soon as possible. I had put all the materials away before the holidays as I was up to my ears in xmas decorations, etc. I went to look for it all a few days ago and tore the house up trying to find it. I was totally thrown as I couldn't imagine what had become of it. I gave up the search two days in a row and finally unable to chuck it all to the wind I figured I'd have one more look. Again with the flashlight searching under beds, in cupboards, in linen closet...then finally...there it was in a large bag in my clothes closet. I thought I had put it all in a box...duh!

The weather has turned cold now. Well, colder than over the holidays. No snow worth talking about though and the longer that keeps away the happier I'll be. It got above zero today so the chickens got out for a while.

The seed catalogues have arrived so I have to sit down soon to make a list of what I want. I always find this exciting. I swore I wouldn't buy any more seeds but I see a couple of things I'd like with just a quick look through the catalogues. I want to order a couple of Patchouli plants to grow as a house plant. One for me and one for Laurie. Apparently they smell devine.

Not many birds around these days. I don't know why. I guess once it gets colder the feeders will be getting lots of attention.

A friend had her old Jack Russell, Mouse, put down a short while ago. I went with her to the vets. Needless to say there were tears from both of us. My friend was very upset as you can well imagine. She's contacted a breeder and will have a Jack Russell puppy in early Februray. His name will be Stuart.

I haven't been keeping up very well with the blogs that I read so must try to get at that soon and catch up.

A new year. 2010

A new day, a new year. We had such an exciting evening.....watched a movie and were in bed by 9:00 pm. It can't be because we are getting old surely, my mom 85 and my dad 89 were out at a dance, tripping the light fantastic til all hours. Daughter probably didn't get home until daylight either....

We have been eating so much over the holidays. Lots of sweets, cakes, chocolates, etc. Monday is the day of reckoning. It all has to stop. Got to get back to healthy eating again and LOOSE WEIGHT!! Saying this while I'm here at the computer pushing more chocolates into my mouth.

Santa was good to me....I got a new printer, scanner, copier, a dvd player that takes those sticks. ie: you can down load movies, series, etc. onto the stick and then it goes into the player. I'm also waiting on a new computer. The one I have now is very slow and is getting to be a pain in the rear end at times. Of course I got lots of other wonderful stuff, too much to mention.

We woke up this morning to some flurries. It's suppose to warm up by tomorrow with some rain I believe. The chickens have been able to get out and about the property as the snow we did have had melted and the ground was showing up again.
