I went off to the beach this morning to try to get a better picture of the Plover. No luck I'm afraid. Nary a sign of any birds with the exception on one lone Gull, (at least I think it's a gull.) Then decided to go to the other beach and not a sign of any birds again. The tide was high so I'm assuming there wasn't much showing up on the sand for the birds. It was chilly and my hands were quite cold so I didn't stick around for long. The best I could do was get pictures of the grey sky and the one bird. Will have to try another day. If anyone can ID the bird, please do. I'm trying to enhance my pitiful knowledge of sea birds.

Intense skies OC. I wish I could help you with your gull but I am no good at seabird ID's
Ooooh ... nice pictures! D's standing behind me saying, this one would make a good painting ... oh, but that one would too!!!
Janine, I think the bird might be a herring gull. Not entirely sure though.
Cicero, Glad D enjoyed the pictures.
Sorry Crow, I have no idea about seabirds but your pictures are fantastic, dramatic, beatific, harmonic and whatever other superlative word ending with -ic comes to your mind! LOL
All the pics are great but I really !!! enjoy the 3rd one down. I'm a storm lover and those clouds rolling in are awesome.
What a coincidence - we went to the beach today too! It was sunny but too chilly for our dog to swim today, just a bit of light paddling! How fantastic that you have woods going right down to the beach. We just have dunes.
Your photos remind me a little of the years I spent in Coos Bay (other coast). Grey and moody was the theme from Oct to June;)
I've always wanted to visit your area of Canada. It certainly looks lovely in photos. Rugged coastline, forests, pretty towns to visit.

Beautiful coastline, even on a grey, gloomy day. A place I hope to visit someday.

All of these photos are nice. It looks like you had some bad weather to work with. Thanks for visiting my birds blog.
I love those kinds of days. We call them "Fine Irish Days" :)
and your autumn day was glorious. I so love seed pods.
I meant to add, i don't know much about birds but it looks like a plover or a surfbird.
Lovely moody pictures, Crow; is that wytchwood bordering the beach?
I'm not so certain about Herring Gull as an ID tag for your Gull, the tail leaves me baffled as does the head.
Next time, can you also take a piccie of the tail if it is a Gull?
Yoke, no I'm not bordering the beach but am quite close. I'm not sure about the bird either but if I see it again I will take a picture of the rear end, lol.
I've had another look and on closer inspection I don't think it is a Golden Plover. It could be a Hearring Gull but still think it may be a Surfbird which is a short beaked sandpiper relative.
Juli, I looked up surf bird on the internet and in one of my books. It does look an awful lot like a surf bird but they are only found on the west coast of Canada. I then looked at some of the plovers and it does look like a type of plover.
