A Summer Like Day

I felt like I should blog but really not much is happening lately. I can say that it's like a summer day, sunny and warm, just need a t-shirt on outside and here we are into October. I finally got inspired to clean what we call the "cabin", on the bank behind the house. I came across a few things that I brought back down to the house, a silver tray and a brass tray, in bad need of cleaning. I have a good bit of silver and brass and to tell the truth, it can be a nuisance as it often needs cleaning. However, once done, it can look quite beautiful.

I had a phone call from my father. He's had some pain around his rib area for months and finally decided to see the doctor. Had x-rays taken and found out he has one broken rib and two fractured ones. The doctor told him not to do anything too strenuous. Is he listening....no, he's been digging up his potatoes and beet, cutting their lawn, doing his fast walk every morning, etc. Here he is heading for 90 years of age and there's no slowing him down. He has to get a bone density test now as he can't remember falling or hurting himself in some other way. And mother, along with everything else she's into has now taken up square dancing, lol.

I did bang together an autumn arrangement to have in front of one of the windows.

And, some of the regular stuff like this little imp who's here everyday.

Blue Jay

Junco

Chick a Dee breaking open a seed between his feet.

And, one of the ever present woodpeckers.

Ah- nice to see the old crew: Blue Jay and the Squirrel busy.

Can;t remember seeing a Junco before anywhere. That is a 'blog tick' for me!!

You made a beautiful fall arrangement. The squirrel pics always bring a smile to my face. I think the woodpecker is a little female downy. The male has a red spot on the back of his head. Nature is a wonderful Blessing.

J, it's a female Hairy, larger than the Downy.
Gallicissa, The Juncos are also called Snow Birds. Very few in the summer but loads around during the winter.

I wandered onto your site quite by accident but I'm really enjoying it. I just had to see the blog because I thought your profile icon was so cute.

Love the bird photos. Also loved the post with the ice coated floweres--those were really nice pictures.

More gorgeous photos! I've started collecting quite a bit of brass lately, mostly candlesticks and photo frames. Any tips on cleaning them?

Lily, I use Brasso and Silvo. It's been around for as long as I can remember. There are cleaners you can make up yourself I've been told but haven't googled them.

Lovely post, OC. and gorgeous pictures. great how the lid of the Squirrel feeder catches the light.
Grandma brass/silver cleaning trick:
place kitchen foil into pan/cookingpot, depending size of items, place foil matt side up and bring to boil (withuot!! items in pot)
then add items and let sit or simmer very low.
works everytime. as you can tell, I only got very small stuff of silver, LOL.
