The weather has finally changed for the good. Amazing how it perks up the spirit when the sun shines. The weekend is drawing nigh and Saturday is Lughnasa, the first harvest. I expect I'll make some breads in honor of the day and any friends who might drop by will be served breads, jam and cheese. It's also the annual Seafest weekend here in this community. It will go on all weekend with a fireworks display on Sunday night. If the weather holds good we will probably drop down to the beach where all the activity will be. A beer tent is usually set up with local musicians playing. If we do go, I'll take some pictures.
The Blessed Thistle is in bloom now and the bees absolutely love it.
Another plant that attracts lots of bees is this Motherwort.
And of course the Lambs Ear is usually covered in bees.
I haven't seen any Dragonflies yet and it's so strange. The only think I can figure is that there have been no mosquitoes or black flies. Well, not enough to notice anyway.
A closer look at one of the Delphiniums. They have different shades of blue and appear iridescent.
This plant put in an appearance this year and I don't know what it is. No doubt a wild flower so if anyone knows please tell me.
These beauties have finally come into bloom and they seem to go on forever.
The young jays are still hanging around with the parents. Forever back and forth to the feeders. The little squirrel is after the sunflower seeds all day long. The hole in the top of the feeder is chewed open so big now that they don't have to bother lifting the cover anymore they just go through the top. I think it's time to look for another feeder similar to that one.

Lovely to hear from you ... hope all is well. As ever, your photos are so colourful. xxx
I love the Blue Jay photos. One of my favorite birds.
I believe your mystery flower is flea bane. I posted a photo of one in my garden a couple posts ago. They bloom for a long time and are found in pink, white and lilac colors. I had meant to look up the history and uses of the plant but forgot to do it.

Wow wonderful photos! Have a great time at the weekend, so pleased the weather has got better for you over thereX
Thanks guys. Marnie, I'll look that up, thanks.
Yea for some sun! It does perk the spirits, especially after a drear spell.
I've never seen a Blessed Thistle. Very pretty. Delphiniums are SO showy.
I've never heard of Lughnasa Day. As for first harvest, I did get about a cup of peas out of the garden yesterday as well as some broccoli, beet greens, lettuce and chard.
lovely bees OC
Hi OC, you're right about the weather having such an influence on our moods! The weather over here is grey and very wet! Your bee pictures are fab! TC Tattyx
Ooh lovely to have sunshine; great pics of the bees OC. Have a great time at the weekend - they sound wonderful events!
Glad to hear you are getting good weather now, first harvest sounds like a great thing to celebrate, and if I was in the area I would surely stop for homemade bread! We are having our usual afternoon thunder strom! We can always use the rain!
Excellent photos of the bees today!
Nice blog will look in again
Have fun this weekend! Love the shots of the Jay family. As for the black flies- I met some in Maine. There must be some very fat dragonflies flying around because there were tons of those suckers.
The weekend sounds like great fun. Gorgeous photos, as always. I know exactly what you mean about the difference a bit of sun makes to your outlook.

Your white flower looks very similar to 'Bellis' a relative of the common Daisy.
Beautiful shots, I do envy you the Blessed Thistle and the Delphiniums.
I love those thistles, keep some seeds and i'll be in touch.
You've had some nice bug pictures, my favourite is the bee in flight with his tongue out.
The one before your 'droplets' post, which are great also.
ST, I'll save lots of those thistle seeds for you when the heads go to seed.
Great photos, Carol.
Strange that my Wild Flower books do not feature the Bellis perennis, (the flower Toffeeapple suggested, above.) Would be a good choice; species of both Europe as well as N America.
