Exciting Day.

Well, two days actually. There were these birds at the feeders so I took some pictures. I was thinking that they were Siskins but after putting them on the computer I thought, no, they aren't Siskins. So, I get my bird books out and find that they are American Goldfinches. According to the maps in the books, they shouldn't be here. They are found in the northern U.S and part of Canada but not here in this province. I'm sure most of you know how exciting it is to see something new at the feeders. They were a bit nervous so had to take pictures through the window in the door. You must forgive me for posting all these pictures but heigh ho, it's a new one for me.

For not usually being there, you sure got a bunch of them. Aren't they cute? I love when I get a chance to see something new at my feeders, too.

Very exciting ... I don't blame you for posting pictures. I haven't even had them in summer!

Wow - how fantastic to have new and rare visitors to your garden OC!

And you can easily be forgiven for posting loads of pictures for something soooooo exciting!! And they're all good too; especially like the first one.

We have them year round here in Kentucky. Their plummage is a brilliant bright yellow in the summer.
Love the pics.

I know just how your feel. I had tree sparrows and redpolls last year down from Canada. I don't often see the redpolls so I was excited.

They look bobby dazzlers Oldcrow. As you say getting something new and fresh onto the feeders is exciting, which is what this wildlife watching is all about. I watched a Wren today, very common in the UK, but it was beside the car, and gave a good 5 minutes of entertainment. Lovely.

we have them here as well. I only discovered them a few years ago, they congregate around puddles sometimes and take flight in a flutter of yellow and zebra wings. The males are especially bright :)

A few mornings ago we counted 14 cardinals, males and females, on the and in the chicken pen getting corn. I thought of you and wished you could have seen them.

Merry New Year sister :)
