Busy Day.

Yesterday, got up before the crack of dawn as usual. Did a load of laundry and got that out on the line. Then as it was sunny with little or no wind I decided to re-do the chickens greenhouse with plastic as winter will soon be coming on. A job I've been putting off as it's up and down the ladder with hammer, nails and strips of wood. It didn't take as long as I had thought and I'm well pleased with the job. Then cleaned out the chicken house which I do at the very least once a week. It's funny how the chickens get interested when I'm doing something, hanging around, muttering and clucking as if saying "What's she at now." A friend brought me some beets he had grown so I bottled those, we do love pickled beets. Then decided to cut back some of the perennials and tidy up a bit. I was tired and aching a bit last night but it was a good feeling. A sense of satisfaction when you get things done.

So, today it's back out in the garden to do more cutting back. Another friend wants some bits of plants so will probably dig some up. I really have to cut herbs and bring them in for drying so may get to that as well if I can get at them before the predicted rain comes later this morning.
Cold this morning so must go and light the fire.

A few butterflies around yesterday. I'm surprised to see them this late in the year but as I've said before, I've seen more butterflies in the garden this year than ever before. Oh, and still loads of bees. When my mom was here she couldn't get over all the bees on the flowers that are still in bloom.

This was a huge one.

Flutters.

A bug.

A few poppies still blooming.

With your wonderful pictures (as usual) OC, I can almost believe it's still mid-summer with the warmth of the sun on my back :) Something I definitely need on a grey, wet, miserable day here in my part of the UK!

You sound as though you've been a very busy bee yourself methinks.

I never cease to wonder about the incredible beauty of the Blue Jays you have over there. And your picture of him/her is really stunning. Can you tell the sexes of the Blue Jays apart from their markings? It is not possible with the Jays we have here but, you never know.

You better had be going with your garden because, as you promised, after you finished yours you'll come over and do my garden. LOL LOL LOL LOL

Did Freya continued to improve? Hope she did.

Lily, nice to see you here.
Carin, lol, yeah, I'll book a flight. I can't tell the sexes of the blue jays. I should really find out if there is a way. Freya has improved a fair bit but still wobbly at times. If she's still the same by Friday I'll have to phone the vet and maybe bring her in again.

Things accomplished do give one such a feeling of satisfaction!

Great photos. Things are still looking lovely like someone else commented!

Glad to hear that Freya is doing - moderatly - well, Crow. I don't know why but it always takes a bit over a week until the antibotica finally kicks in.

And yes I am a 'cat-woman' myself.

Carin, thanks for the information. That makes me feel a little better. Happy to hear that your a cat woman as well.

I've keep cats almost all my life and altough they were very seldom ill, it happens to be that one of the cats living presently with me got sick three weeks ago and needed a daily dosis of antibiotica.

Hey that feels like chating! Is that not a grossly misuse of your blog? Sorry about that, Crow, I promise I wont do it again! LOL LOL LOL

hi Oldcrow, I've been trying to identify your butterfly, nearest I've got to , not knowing Canadian species very well is an American Lady (Vanessa virginiensis), closely related to the Painted Lady. Am I close?

BR, you're right it seems. Looking up my book it looks like an American Lady. Thanks for the help, always appreciated.
