I'm trying to get kick started here this morning. Not much in the mood for doing much so thought I'd write about my day...yesterday. This past weekend during beach cleanup, I ran into the vet. Told her that Freya was still stumbling when I put the ear drops in her ear. She said to call Monday and make an appointment as these things took time to clear up. Up to six weeks in some cases. Yesterday morning I phoned and got an appointment for 11:10am. So we packed up the cat and took off. Final result...the ear has cleared up well but she was put on another weeks medication. I hope that's the end of it.

We had some shopping to do and I wanted to stock up on things as R. is going for a two week holiday to see his daughter in the US near the end October. I had to get some bird seed so we went to one of the larger department stores. Got out of the car when a pickup pulled up with a dead, large male moose in the back of the truck. There were women going into the store at the time laughing at it and yelling to the guy, "You got your moose." I nearly got sick as did Roger. Not only that but what really sickened me more was that the guy had stuffed his work gloves in the moose's mouth, trying to be funny. I couldn't get my head around how he could be so disrespectful of such a magnificent creature, any creature for that matter. It had upset me so much that I woke up several times during the night with that picture in my head.

Then we went to the supermarket. I noticed the prices on most things had gone up since I'd been there last. They say it's because of the oil prices. I don't know where it's all going to end.

I was out taking pictures a couple of days ago of different flying insects and thinking to myself that if anyone had told me a couple of years ago that I would be taking any pictures, something I very rarely did ever, I would have told them they were crazy, lol. I've gotten quite a fondness for these creatures and really do take too many pictures of them but heigh ho, what can I say. An internet friend, someone I haven't met in person, only to chat with, sent me two books on Butterflies and Dragonflies to help me ID these beautiful creatures. How wonderful is that!

I haven't seen a dragonfly for a while now, but the odd Butterfly and many bees still about. Lots of wasps as well only on warm sunny days for the most part.

A big surprise one of the rose bushes has bloomed again.

Glad to hear that your mistress is doing well!

I know what you mean about being - in the past - not much of a photographer! I've started birdfeeding last November and it did not take a long time for me to decide that I NEED to get myself a better camera to take - way too much - pictures of the beautiful visitors in my garden. I am still learning and my pictures are not half as brilliant as yours but I enjoy it never the less.

I am afraid I would have 'freaked out' at the block with the killed moose... and I am not a very 'fine lady' then...

Hi OC - I know about the mornings that won't get going!

Glad to hear that Freya is almost in the clear. Hopefully the week's meds will see it off fully.

That's a dreadful attitude the driver (and the laughing women) had towards the moose! Unless it was for it's own good, how could he kill it in the first place.

What a lovely thought of your internet friend to send you such a great gift!

..and, of course, your pictures (and subjects) are as captivating as ever.

Carin, my camera is not expensive in fact I checked recently and the price has dropped to $350.00, I think that's around £150. I find it a great camera for my needs.

Trica, it's moose hunting season here now so people are out killing. I always dread March month as well as I know the seals are being brutally slaughtered. Breaks my heart.

Love all your pics.
Some folks don't have respect for anything ... including themselves.
Sad.

I do like your photography and your writing is good too. I do some writing for newspapers and magazines.

Thanks for visiting.

I just stopped reading a blog because a woman and her children killed a harmless snake and then laughed about it and took pictures as they beat it with their shoes. She posted all this and thought it was funny. The really sad thing was that most of the comments were in agreement with her.
I live in a hunter's world and have friends that hunt but they have respect for the animal and some even thank the animal for their life. My friends eat what they kill and never make fun of the death of the animal. Those people with the dead moose are building up some really bad karma.

Your photos are wonderful. I love the bee and the bumble on the same leaf. What camera did you buy?

I don't see the point in killing for fun. Killing for meat is one thing, but killing a moose just to have killed a moose is just... well I don't understand it at all.

I'm the same about foxhunting. Sure, maybe fox numbers need to be controlled, but the thing that makes me sick about it is all those people who enjoy it so much.

I'd love to see a real moose. A Canadian guy I used to chat to on the internet once sent me a cuddly moose in a can... it was labelled up as if it was a can of moose meat or something, but inside was a cute cuddly moose toy all scrunched up. Made me laugh!

I feel very badly for the guy who disrespected the Moose and for the women who laughed at it. People who disrespect life in any way tend to have little, if any, respect for themselves. I think it's because we've all just forgotten. Most people anyway. Forgotten how to live in honor. But I also think that simply by the example of others, they will eventually awaken to remembering.

I am so very glad you did take up a camera, my life would be much less full if you hadn't :)

Re: moose. I appreciate all your comments. You've all said it well. Anna, it was no doubt killed to eat. Farm lady, my camera is a Canon S31S. A dandy camera in my opinion. At least, it's perfect for my needs.

Wonderful close ups. Rose is very beautiful as well. I have read a few reports from North America about drops in dragonfly sightings due to change of seasons.

Gallicissa, this is true. I don't expect to see the other bugs for much longer either as we are heading into winter and it will soon get much colder.
