It's been a busy week. I'm pleased with the amount I've gotten done in the garden, still more to do of course, isn't there always! Things are popping up all over and according to my mother who knows about these things, the garden is two to three weeks ahead this year. We didn't have as much snow this winter as we usually do and we've also been having a lot of warmer days than usual.

It seems that most of the birds have paired off. A lot of them come as a couple. Interesting to watch them chase each other about. Two squirrels as well so guess they are probably nesting nearby. The crows are back and forth more than usual. They are usually waiting in the morning for me to come out with their food. Yesterday I was outside watching two of them and one was making the strangest noise. I'd never heard anything like it before. Almost a thrilling sound but not quite, I simply can't describe it. Then the other crow would groom the head of the one making the strange sounds.

We went to the library yesterday afternoon and on returning home we saw two grouse on the property, male and female and the male was drumming. We were very close to them before they saw us and flew off into the woods.

Clean up week is coming up so we've also been busy taking stuff we want to get rid of down to the road for pick up. The weather has been wet this past two days but I'm hoping to get that all finished by early next week. And....we've gotten word that the bears are out and about now. This means being watchful when outside.

Iris's popping up.

A little bit of colour starting to show up.

Chick a dee.

Got to go, I can hear the crows outside asking each other what's making her inside late with breakfast.

Nice when you feel you've achieved something isn't it; and great to see colour returning to the garden!

Watch out for those bears OC! Difficult to get my mind around bears in the area when the most I get is the odd fox or two. Lol

Bears? I thought it was moose you had to keep a weather eye out for on The Rock! Are those bluebells?

lol Ali, the only time the moose can be dangerous is when the males are going through rutting season and it's rare to get one here on the property. The bears however are a different story. Not that they have ever attacked anyone to my knowledge but one has to be careful as the females sometimes come around with their young and you don't want to get between momma and baby. Nor do you want to go around the corner of the house and run into a bear that's not aware of your presence. I don't know who would get the bigger fright, lol. Simple common sense must prevail.

Forgot to say that those blue flowers are grape hyacinths.

Hi Just stumbled over your blog and enjoyed reading I read that more people are killed by hunters than bear attacks so you should be safe. Since I live down in the southern usa our plants are much further along, my Iris' are finished already and the day lillies are almost ready to open. I love hard work when its rewarded by a flower or a plate of homegrown salad fixins!

Look at all you have done and have happening and have sprouting! All I've done is follow a puppy around trying to catch him before he pees in the house! ... oh, and of course play with the little rapscallion.

Terriers are VERY rascally and stubborn!

We had a long winter this year. Spring came late and I'm later still in getting the garden ready. I have tomatoes waiting to go in on the 15th when there isn't much chance of frost anymore. Always such a rush this time of year.

Marnie, our last frost date is June 15th. A long way off yet. We have such a short season.
